Functions of salt

Salt controls the amount of water within our bodies and maintains the critical balance between cells and body fluids. It also aids in the contraction of muscle tissue and serves as a vital ingredient of blood plasma and digestive secretions.
Salt is esseiltial for the maintenance of human life.
At the same time, it is important to remember that excessive salt may prove destructive or even fatal. Modem medical research has shown that a healthy adult requires an intake of less than ten grammesof salt per day.
